Math 140-Analysis, General Information
Winter 2010--Spring 2010
Course Description
Introduction to analysis, a subject which is necessary for any intelligent person who wants to read/learn about modern mathematics. Before you come to this class you suppose to know what are $\epsilon$ and $\delta$, and the concept of limit defined using them.
Should I take it?
Each quarter there will be two midterms and a final exam. Bring the blue books.

Supplement Reading:
Part of the Lecture notes by Leon Simon for Stanford Honor Calculus Class. (This provides an efficient introduction for those who want an express way in real analysis.)
KVANT SELECTA: Algebra and Analysis I and II. Serge Tabachnikov Editor. 1999 AMS (KVANT is a Russian journal for high school (sometimes maybe college) students who are interested in math. We take some related (translated) essays which are understandable to high school students from this collection. You should try your best to understand them, at least before you get your degree.)

Exams
There will be two midterms and one final exam.
Homework
There will be weekly homework
assignments. Please check weekly for the updates. Many problems will be assigned every week. They have to be turned in by the 6:00pm of the due day. The exams will be based on lectures and homework problems.
For Math140B, only the assignment with * need to be turned in.
