UCSD Mathematics : Southern California Number Theory Day

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA NUMBER THEORY DAY
U.C. SAN DIEGO, MAY 31, 2008

Organizers: Wee Teck Gan, Cristian Popescu, Harold Stark, with financial support from the NSA and UCSD.

Invited Speakers: Joel Bellaiche (Brandeis University), Alex Buium (University of New Mexico), Matt Papanikolas (Texas A&M University), Dipendra Prasad (TATA Institute and UCSD), Felipe Voloch (University of Texas at Austin).

Location: All talks will be held in AP&M Bldg, (Dept. of Math) Room 6402, on the UCSD campus. The refreshments will be served in AP&M Bldg. Room 7356. Click on campus map to locate the AP&M Bldg.(it is the red bldg. on the map.)

11:15 - 12:15	Matt Papanikolas "Transcendence and algebraic independence over function fields"

2:15 - 3:15	Alex Buium "Relations among modular points on elliptic curves"
3:30 - 4:30	Joel Bellaiche "Sign and reducibility of Galois representations attached to automorphic forms for unitary groups"
5:00 - 6:00	Felipe Voloch "The Brauer-Manin obstruction for curves"
6:30 -	Dinner - Cozymel's, La Jolla

Directions to the UCSD campus and the AP&M building (Math. Department).

Parking on the UCSD Campus is free on weekends. You may park in any of the parking lots next to the AP&M building. For a campus map, please click on map. Please do not park in the "reserved" or "A parking only" spaces.

Registration: There is no registration fee. However, if you are interested in participating, please fill in the blank fields below and click on the "Submit Registration Information" button below in order to register for the conference. This will help the organizers make proper catering arrangements and dinner reservations.
