Before joining UCSD, Dr. Nie was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Mathematics and its applications (IMA). His research is in the field of computational optimization, with an emphasis on semidefinite programming and multivariate polynomial optimization. He has published over twenty research papers.
