Professor of Mathematics
Graduate Vice Chair
Ph.D. Mathematics, University of Illinois, 1974
B.S. Mathematics, University of Michigan, 1967
Ron Evans held a two-year instructorship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1973-1975) and has taught at UCSD since 1975. Many of his papers deal with special functions in classical analysis and number theory. His recent work focuses on evaluations of character sums, for example, Gauss sums, Jacobi sums, Kloosterman sums, and hypergeometric character sums, with connections to Hecke eigenfunctions.
