Using NCSA Telnet

Accounts :
A computing account is available to every teaching visitor, research visitor, visiting scholar, and visiting Post-Doc who is affiliated with the Math Department at the University of California at San Diego. Accounts expire two weeks after you leave UCSD. To open an account, stop by the Chair's office and sign up with Tony Rodgers. Accounts are usually ready within two working days. If you need help with your account, stop by the Math Computing Support office with photo-identification.
Connecting:
To connect to a host/server:

  • Start NCSA Telnet.



  • Open Connection from the File menu
  • Enter the name of the host/server you wish to connect to where it says Host/Session Name.

  • If you have opened an account on our server the name of the server will be euclid.ucsd.edu. As is shown in the previous graphic.
  • Click on Connect or simply press return when done entering the host/server name.
  • You should then receive a window similar to the one pictured below. With the name of the host/server you are attempting to connect to listed on the title bar.

  •
