Scanning Directions
In order to get a high quality image that is not too large in terms of memory, follow the directions below to create a JPG, GIF, or PDF document.
The scanner is attached to the Mac computer to the left of the scanner (in the northwest corner of the room). Hence you will need to use this computer to do your scanning.
To make a JPG or a GIF document (best suited for scanning graphic images):
1) Turn on the scanner (the button is on the right, towards the back of the scanner), and place documents to be scanned face down on the plate. Close the cover.
2) Open the Abobe Photoshop 5.5 application. (You will find this in the Apple Menu under "Applications.")
3) Select File, Import, Twain Acquire...
4) The scanner utility should appear. Make sure the BEGINNER option is selected at the top center.
5) In the lower right hand corner, there are four options to scan;
- "Color Photo" - for color graphic documents, i.e. photos.
- "Printed Matter" - for documents containing graphics and text, i.e. magazine articles.
- "Lineart / B&W" - best suited for standard printed text documents, i.e. a written paper.
- "Web Image" - select if your color material is to be published on the web.
Select the appropriate choice.
6) After scanning is completed, your scanned document should appear within the Adobe Photoshop application.
7) Click on File, Save As... Select "Desktop" for location, select the document 'Format' and name your document.
NOTE: There is now a document on the desktop, ready for web publishing, e-mailing, or printing.
To make a PDF (best suited for text documents or hand written solutions):
1) Turn on the scanner (the button is on the right, towards the back of the scanner), and place documents to be scanned face down on the plate. Close the cover.
2) Open the Acrobat 4.0 application. (You will find this in the Apple Menu under "Applications.")
3) Select File, Import, Scan... This should bring up window with the device name and format. Click Scan.
4) The scanner utility should appear. Make sure the BEGINNER option is selected at the top center.
5) In the lower right hand corner, there is an option to scan "Lineart / B&W" click on that button.
6) To continue scanning additional sheets, select Next, otherwise select Done.
7) After scanning is completed, your scanned document should appear within the Adobe Acrobat application.
8) Click on File, Save. Select "Desktop" for location and name your document.
NOTE: There is now a PDF document on the desktop, ready for web publishing, e-mailing, or printing.
