Setting up your account

1) Login to your department Unix account on euclid.ucsd.edu.
2) At the prompt, type:

cd $HOME
mkdir public_html
chmod 711 public_html

If you get an error message of "mkdir: Failed to make directory "public_html"; File exists", that means you already have a "public_html" subdirectory. Creating your first HTML document

The default file the web server looks for is one named "index.html".

cd public_html
vi index.html

Viewing your webpage
In your web browser, type in "http://www.math.ucsd.edu/~username/".
