Resnik Department of Philosophy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill resnik@email.unc.edu Title: The Renaissance of Second-Order Logic in The Philosophy of Mathematics Early Twentieth Century philosophy of mathematics enjoyed important successes through using second-order logic, but the supposed set theoretic presuppositions of this logic led subsequent philosophers to denigrate its status as logic and the achievements based upon it. Recently, both philosophical and technical considerations have led to a rebirth of its use in the philosophy of mathematics. This paper surveys these developments.
