For undergraduates: Want to learn about discrete curve shortening? An article I wrote with David Glickenstein (University of Arizona) on Semidisrete Geometric Flows of Polygons will appear in the April 2007 issue of the American Mathematical Monthly.

Here's a paper I wrote with Feng Luo (Rutgers University) on combinatorial curvature flows on triangulated surfaces. It involves a mix of ordinary differential equations and Euclidean and hyperbolic trigonometry Journal of Differential Geometry 2003

Want to learn about differential geometry and related areas? Here are a few of my favorite books:

  • Munkres, James. Topology.
  • Massey, William. Algebraic Topology: An Introduction.
  • Milnor, John. Topology from the Differential Viewpoint.
  • Spivak, Michael. A Comprehensive Introduction to Differential Geometry, 5 volumes.
  • Hicks, Noel. Notes on Differential Geometry.
  • Burago, Dmitri; Burago, Yuri; Ivanov, Sergei. A Course in Metric Geometry.
  • Milnor, John. Morse Theory.
