Here are some hints for the extra problems assigned for Midterm 2.

Extra Stuff

Here is a handout with examples of proofs by induction prepared by Professor Keith Conrad. I recommend looking through it for some real examples of how induction works in linear algebra, calculus, and algebra. The proofs are a little difficult, but very worthwhile trying to understand.

Here are 36 Methods of Mathematical Proof.

Nick Slinglend has solutions for the other Math 109 class taught by Dr. Abramson. Look at his web page for other examples of how proofs should be written.

A very good web page on writing proofs written by Dr. Ed Bender can be found at http://math.ucsd.edu/~ebender/proofs.html
