Sports are an excellent way to blow off steam after just having thought too long about mathematics. UCSD has a great intramural sports program and, much to everyone's surprise, our math department has assembled many teams in the past. At the time of publication, the sports to choose from include flag football, volleyball, dodgeball, team tennis, basketball, and indoor soccer. The list of available sports changes each quarter and the most up-to-date list can be found here.
Their website also has all the procedures for forming a team, etc. The thing to remember is that the paperwork has to be done very early in the quarter, so if you want to make a team, make sure you look at the website ahead of time and stay on top of things. The contact number for the Intramural Sports staff is available on their website if you have any other questions.
Pictured to the right is one of our previous Math department basketball teams, named for our very own Professor Adriano Garsia. They won the championship that year.
