    Research:
My research is in symbolic computation. My interests are (1) to facilitate a mathematician's ability to produce research and instructional software; (2) to develop ways to use the Internet as a medium for making mathematics accessible (particularly computer programs); (3) the computer as a tool for experiment in math; (4) the use of a computer in proofs.
    Teaching:
I am interested in how people learn. I am particularly interested in ways computers can be used to help people learn better. I have taught math courses using computers to students ranging from elementary school to graduate school. Starting in the mid 1980's I developed a course in "Computer Algebra"  to introduce undergrad mathematics majors to symbolic computation.
