Our Purpose | Sample Activities | Future Plans
This page will give you a brief description of our purpose, our current activities, and our future plans. See the very bottom of this page for details about joining the Math Club.
Our Purpose
We, the UCSD Math Club, would like to serve as a gathering place, as well as an academic and career resource, where all students interested in mathematics can further their involvement in the subject, meet other people with similiar interests, and discover some of the opportunities mathematics has to offer.

A Sample of Our Activities
Career Speaker Events: With the help of Kimberly Eaton, the Math Advising Officer, we invite UCSD alumni who have degrees in mathematics to come back and speak to students about their careers, and how their education in mathematics applies in their current professions.
Showing videos or going to movies related to mathematics: For example, the Club is showing "Pi", the movie, on October 4th at the Price Center Theater on the UCSD campus.
Regular Meetings: Get together and talk about anything (yes, literally anything) related to mathematics. Some meetings in the past have been held at a restaurant off-campus and at the beautiful cliffs of La Jolla at around sunset.
Math Club Logo Contest: From May 6th to May 26th, we held a campus-wide contest in search of a logo for the Math Club that best represents the purpose and identity of the Math Club.

Future Plans
Entering a group of club members as a team in a local, regional, or national math conpetition.
Becoming a member of a large organization devoted to the interests of collegiate mathematics, such as the Mathematical Association of America.
Attending a local, regional, or national conference, and meeting students from other colleges who share the same interests in mathematics.
Doing outreach at local elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools on the importance and the cool side of mathematics and its applications.
Having a mathematical modeling contest on the beautiful La Jolla shores in Spring Quarter.
Gradually building a compact yet useful library of books on mathematics serving as reference and/or recreation for mainly undergraduate students.
The officers of the club and the math advising officer will meet regularly to come up with more ideas. Please come back and check out our Events
page often.
