NCAlgebra and NCGB Installation

This chapter gives more detail on some aspects of Installation and running NCGB, SYStems, OldMmaGB. These are kind of random remarks we wanted to hang onto but which are probably not too important.

NCAlgebra was developed on a UNIX system and it is very easy to install on one. Also NCGB is easy to run under Solaris 1.1.3 or higher 1. Here we tell you how. Installation under DOS or on a MAC is similar and if you are a novice the assistance of system manager could be valuable to you. Also, if you obtain this from mathsource, then follow their directions.

Installation of NCGB under an operating system other than Solaris is described in the NCGBDOCUMENT, but as of August 1997 we do not have much experience with it. NCGB is not available from MathSource.

By following the directions in Appendix 29 you should have a collection of directories shown in the following figure:
