The Western Algebraic Geometry Symposium traces back its origin to the Utah - UCLA Algebraic Geometry Seminar started in 1989 by H. Clemens, D. Gieseker, M. Green, J. Kollár, and R. Lazarsfeld. Later on, it became the Utah - UCLA - Chicago Algebraic Geometry Seminar. WAGS meets twice per year and congregates an international group of more than 70 mathematicians, from students to experts in the field of Algebraic Geometry.
Long term planning for WAGS is currently done by Aaron Bertram (Utah), Renzo Cavalieri (Colorado State), Sebastian Casalaina-Martin (Colorado), Sándor Kovács (Washington), an Ravi Vaki (Stanford).>
WAGS is partially supported by a grant from the NSF. Financial support for this edition of WAGS was also provided by University of California, San Diego.
