Littlewood-Richardson Refinements Part I: Nonsymmetric and quasisymmetric functions

Abstract:

We introduce a new basis for quasisymmetric functions, called "quasisymmetric Schur functions", and provide a combinatorial rule for the multiplication of a quasisymmetric Schur function by a Schur function. We extend this approach to develop similar multiplication rules for Demazure characters and for Demazure atoms. This is joint work with Jim Haglund, Kurt Luoto, and Steph van Willigenburg.
