Diversity Statement

The mathematics department at UC San Diego is united around the common goal of enhancing the reach and power of mathematics through world-class education and research. The study and practice of mathematics is a fundamental human endeavor that we encourage all people to enjoy and contribute to, irrespective of their culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, (dis)ability, religion, age, or socioeconomic status. We consider it our duty to ensure that all our spaces – classrooms, lecture halls and offices – are welcoming, respectful and inclusive of people of all backgrounds so that all our members – students, staff and faculty – have equal opportunity to contribute and flourish. As a public institution serving a diverse population, we are deeply committed to promoting inclusion, achieving equity and respecting diversity among our faculty, students and staff.
