The Banach-Tarski paradox and amenability

Abstract:

We discuss how to cut up a pea into finitely many pieces that can be rearranged to form a ball the size of the sun (but don't try this at home!), and how this leads to the notion of amenability. We give also a proof of Tarski's Theorem, a gem in mathematics.
